Microsoft Expands Copilot with Gmail Search Support

lipflip – Microsoft is rolling out new features to Copilot, aimed at expanding how the AI assistant interacts with productivity tools. The most notable addition is called Connectors, a tool designed to link Copilot with both Microsoft and Google services. These updates are currently available to Windows Insider beta testers. A wider public release is planned but not yet scheduled.

Connectors let users retrieve information from apps like OneDrive, Outlook, Google Drive, and Gmail using simple prompts. For example, a user could ask, “What’s the email address for Sarah?” and Copilot will search Gmail or Outlook to find the answer. Another example is “Find my school notes from last week,” where Copilot pulls documents from either Google Drive or OneDrive.

The integration isn’t limited to email and files. Users can also access calendar events and contact information from both ecosystems. Copilot will connect with Google Calendar and Contacts as easily as it does with Microsoft’s equivalents. This makes it easier to organize, search, and reference data without switching between apps.

To control what services Copilot can access, users can customize settings. Go to Settings within Copilot for Windows and locate the Connectors section. From there, users can enable or disable specific apps such as Gmail, Google Drive, Outlook, or OneDrive.

This approach offers flexibility and privacy. Users can fine-tune what Copilot sees and uses, limiting it to only the tools they rely on. These features are being introduced in version 1.25095.161.0 and later. Users in the Windows Insider Program will receive them first, with broader availability coming later.

As AI assistants continue to evolve, Copilot’s ability to integrate across platforms positions it as a central productivity hub. The Connectors feature could significantly streamline workflows for users managing both Microsoft and Google accounts.

New Export Tools Let Copilot Turn Responses into Office Files

In addition to integration tools, Microsoft Copilot is getting another upgrade that helps with content creation. A new export feature allows users to instantly turn Copilot responses into Microsoft Office or PDF files. Supported file formats include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF.

Users can now prompt Copilot to “export this text to a Word document,” and it will generate the file automatically. The same applies to data being moved into an Excel spreadsheet or key points forming a PowerPoint presentation. While the exact structure of PowerPoint files remains unclear, they likely summarize main ideas in a slide format.

If a response is longer than 600 characters, Copilot will also offer the export option automatically. This gives users a helpful shortcut when generating large volumes of text, numerical data, or summaries.

These exported files allow for easy editing and sharing through familiar Microsoft formats. For example, after a brainstorming session with Copilot, users can convert the output into a Word document for future revision. Similarly, budget figures can go straight into Excel with no manual copying.

By offering both seamless integration with external apps and efficient file conversion, Microsoft positions Copilot as a powerful productivity partner. As these updates reach more users, Copilot will move beyond just generating answers—it will become a hands-on assistant for document creation and data handling. These features reflect Microsoft’s larger push to make Copilot a central AI tool in both professional and personal settings.
