lipflip – Samsung recently announced new software features for its Bespoke Smart Refrigerators. The updates include a Voice ID feature that recognizes users by their voice to offer personalized experiences. Samsung also introduced a new method to activate the Bixby assistant with a double-tap on the screen. These features will roll out through a free over-the-air (OTA) update for the 2025 Bespoke Smart Refrigerator models with AI Family Hub and 9-inch AI Home screens. Samsung plans to expand these capabilities to more Bespoke AI refrigerators later this year, enhancing user convenience and smart home integration.

Voice ID Uses Multi-Voice Recognition to Personalize User Experience
The standout addition is the Voice ID, powered by Samsung’s Bixby AI assistant. This feature can identify individual users by their voice once registered on the refrigerator or their Galaxy smartphone. Upon recognition, the refrigerator switches to the corresponding Samsung account and applies personalized settings. This includes showing calendar events and photos, syncing display preferences, and even triggering alerts on the user’s smartphone to locate it when lost—even in silent mode. Voice ID aims to simplify daily kitchen interactions by tailoring information and controls to each user automatically.
Registration and Compatibility Requirements for Voice ID
Voice ID requires prior registration of a Samsung account on the appliance and is compatible only with Samsung Galaxy S24 series or newer smartphones. The feature also supports only the languages enabled on Bixby, which may limit its availability in certain regions. Users must sync their Google or Microsoft calendars with the smart fridge through AI Family Hub to view events. Additionally, only photos saved on OneDrive via the Samsung Gallery app will appear on the fridge display. These limitations ensure secure and seamless integration but require users to meet specific conditions to enjoy full functionality.
New Double-Tap Gesture Enhances Bixby Activation Options
Besides Voice ID, Samsung has added a new way to launch the Bixby assistant on its Bespoke Smart Refrigerators. Previously, users could activate Bixby using voice commands or by tapping the icon when the display was active. Now, a simple double-tap on the turned-off screen will instantly wake Bixby. This intuitive gesture reduces friction and speeds up interaction, making it easier to access smart features without needing to power on the screen fully. This update highlights Samsung’s focus on user-friendly controls for everyday kitchen use.
Expansion Plans and Screen Compatibility for New Features
Samsung confirmed these features will arrive on Bespoke AI refrigerators with AI Home screens in the second quarter of this year. The AI Home series includes models with 7-inch or 9-inch LCD screens that do not support the full AI Family Hub but still offer smart functionalities. By broadening the availability of Voice ID and the new Bixby activation method, Samsung aims to unify and enhance the user experience across its smart refrigerator lineup. This continued innovation reflects Samsung’s commitment to making connected appliances more personalized and accessible for modern households.
