lipflip – One-Netbook continues to push unconventional hardware concepts through its OneXSugar brand. Working closely with Chinese design firm Sugar Cubes, the company has focused on handhelds that break away from traditional retro designs. After the positive reception of the dual-screen Sugar 1 earlier in 2025. One-Netbook has revealed an even bolder project called the OneXSugar Wallet. A short teaser video shared by the company highlights its ambition to redefine what pocketable gaming hardware can look like.

A Foldable OLED Screen in a Clamshell Body
The defining feature of the OneXSugar Wallet is its single, continuous foldable OLED display. Unlike previous dual-screen handhelds, this device uses one bendable panel that folds inward like a clamshell. When opened, the device reveals an 8.01-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2480 x 1861 and a 4:3 aspect ratio. This makes it the first compact Android gaming handheld to combine built-in controls with a seamless foldable screen. Offering greater immersion, portability, and versatility for gaming and multimedia use on the go.
Designed for DS and 3DS Emulation
The 4:3 aspect ratio appears tailored for classic console emulation, particularly Nintendo DS and 3DS titles. Those systems traditionally relied on two vertically stacked displays, and the OneXSugar Wallet’s tall, uninterrupted screen allows games to scale naturally without a visible gap between panels. This design could provide a more immersive experience for retro fans while avoiding the awkward bezels found on older dual-screen solutions.
Controls and Pocket-Friendly Form Factor
Despite its futuristic display, the OneXSugar Wallet retains familiar physical controls. The preview footage shows a traditional D-pad, standard face buttons. Low-profile dual analog sticks, and shoulder buttons integrated into the clamshell design. When folded, the device becomes significantly more compact than earlier OneXSugar handhelds, making true pocketability one of its main selling points. This positions the Wallet as a more portable alternative to bulkier retro gaming devices.

Durability Questions and Release Outlook
While the concept has generated excitement, questions remain about long-term durability. Foldable screens have historically faced issues related to hinge wear, dust intrusion, and crease longevity. It is still unclear how One-Netbook has engineered the hinge to address these concerns in such a compact form factor. Even so, the company’s reputation for taking risks has already captured the attention of retro gaming enthusiasts. According to the teaser, the OneXSugar Wallet is slated for release in 2026, potentially arriving in the second half of the year if development stays on track.
