AMD Ends Ryzen 7 5700X3D Production for AM4 Platform

lipflip – AMD has reportedly ended shipments of the Ryzen 7 5700X3D, effectively bringing the AM4 platform’s era of X3D processors to a close. Launched at CES 2024, the Ryzen 7 5700X3D was the final AM4 chip featuring AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology. With its discontinuation, the long-standing AM4 platform enters its final phase of support in the gaming market.

According to sources cited by Tweakers, AMD has moved the 5700X3D to end-of-life status. That means the company will no longer manufacture or restock the CPU, leaving only remaining retail inventory available. At the time of writing, that stock appears nearly exhausted, with major retailers like Amazon showing either no listings or inflated prices.

The Ryzen 7 5700X3D launched at $249.99, but pricing fluctuated significantly throughout its lifespan. By late 2024, it had dropped to as low as $187.83, becoming a popular value pick for budget-conscious gamers. However, its rarity in 2025 caused prices to briefly surge above its original MSRP. Recent pricing has normalized, but with the chip now discontinued, a permanent price hike on remaining units is expected.

This development follows AMD’s decision to sunset the Ryzen 5 5600X3D and Ryzen 7 5800X3D in late 2024. Those earlier moves signaled the beginning of the end for AM4’s active product line. With the 5700X3D now added to the list, the entire AM4 3D V-Cache lineup is officially retired.

End of AM4 Gaming Upgrades Pushes Gamers Toward Zen 4 and Zen 5

The end of the Ryzen 7 5700X3D marks a major shift for users of AMD’s AM4 socket, which debuted in 2017. Over the years, AM4 became known for its backward compatibility and longevity. AMD even introduced new AM4 chips as recently as June 2025, with the Ryzen 5 5500X3D. Still, the company now appears focused on transitioning gamers toward its newer Zen 4 and Zen 5 platforms.

Gamers seeking a current-gen alternative with similar core performance must now consider the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. This processor delivers 3D V-Cache capabilities on AMD’s AM5 platform and currently retails for around $376.16. While more powerful, it also requires a full platform upgrade, including a new motherboard and DDR5 memory.

This move may disappoint AM4 users hoping to extend their system lifespan with a cost-effective gaming CPU. However, it also reflects AMD’s broader strategy of consolidating support for AM5 while phasing out older platforms. The Ryzen 7 5700X3D offered solid gaming performance for its price, but it now becomes part of AMD’s legacy lineup.

As remaining stock disappears and prices increase, now may be the last chance to acquire a Ryzen 7 5700X3D at a reasonable cost. For most gamers, though, the shift toward newer architectures will become essential. With AMD fully invested in Zen 4 and Zen 5, the AM4 platform’s long run appears to have finally reached its end.
