Increased funding for germanys students

fzs Logo According to the fzs, the national union of students in germany, the Bundestag, the lower house of the german parliament, will decide not only to increase the salary of its own parliamentarians, but also to increase the federal funding for students from lower-income families (BAföG) by 10%.

The BAföG hasn't been increased for over six years and, in fact, student incomes have been reduced due to cut-backs in the salary of student assistants.

After the increase a typical german student gets roughly 650 Euros/month. According to a recent social survey from the german Studentenwerk, an average german student requires about 700 Euros/month. Tuition fees not included.
